AMBER MCMILLAN
This Is a Love Poem
Over there is a burning house. Inside
is a burning woman or just the idea of one.
At some point you have to ask what’s
the difference; at some point you have to
admit you’re wrong, have been wrong.
I used to be a mountain and I used to
be a storm. One was alive and the other
always seemed to come from nowhere,
and those were the hours of my life.
I want you to know you’re the one, to
sing you a song and be a mountain again.
For you I would, so why not say so. Listen:
whatever I did before, it wasn’t love.
